View Full Version : Dielectric grease on connectors?

I have seen varying recommendations on this.
Some say don't dare get it on the male/female pins of a connector since it is an insulator. Others say coat everything with it, then connect the connector.
I did apply it liberally to the connectors on my injectors...do I need to unplug them and clean it all off?

You're probably ok.
All greases are lousy conductors, but dielectric grease is specifically designed to keep the contact surfaces from oxidizing or corroding (and therefore becoming a bad connection).

I only use dielectric grease on my boat, but it will not hurt anything. I wouldn't bother taking them apart and cleaning.

I use it on all connectors, particularly on the bullet connectors on my British cars. Haven't had a problem in 20 years.

I wouldn't worry about cleaning it off...or putting any on in most cases. It's not going to hurt anything, but it is kind of a mess if you would ever have to work on the connectors you apply it to. All of the engine bay connectors should already be sealed/weather tight, so no need for it.
