Driveshaft

Arrgghh!
Went to install the driveshaft and the flanges are wrong! This is an t-5 tranny against a 8.8 diff and I think the flange on the diff is wrong. See the pics and let me know your impressions.
The receipt from the diff builder said it was a 8.8 ford flanged yoke.

Very much wrong. Flange holes are too far apart to line up with the yoke.

I have to get a 1 1/16 socket and remove the pinion nut. Then take that and the yoke to the shop who made it on Monday and get a replacement. PITA

DONT remove the flange, if you do you'll need a new crush sleeve for the pinion. Just replace the driveshaft yoke.

Take a paper and pencil and make a tracing of the pinion flange for reference. And agree don't take it off.

Not the easiest either to find replacement.

Had another look at the picture of the diff flange, it looks odd the normal 8.8 is a 4 bolt flange. Is it an IRS car? if it is a new style IRS there is an adaptor flange
Google drive shaft repair in your area and you will find shops. Maybe also contact the guy that put the diff together.

Do a tracing or stick the bolts in and measure of you have a dial caliper. If you measure to the outside of the two bolt shanks, and then subtract one bolt diameter, that gives you the center to center distance. I would note both and go to the drive shaft shop. The ones I have dealt with, since it's all they, do make it quite easy for them to find the correct part. That diff flange does look unusual to me but it's been 3 yrs since I last looked at a solid axle so it may just be me.

Any competent drive shaft shop will know the proper yoke for a early V8 Mustang.

Went back to the diff maker and he put a new matching yoke on the driveshaft.
Now installed and pressing for go-karting. Dash and console still to finish.
