New Engine

I have lost compression in my 1991 5.0 and need another engine. I assume that buying a used engine will be must more cost effective than rebuilding the one I have. I need a suggestion for a shop in Houston that can handle a body on engine swap. Thanks.

A used engine can be risky, and may not end up being any cheaper.

Your best bet is a new/rebuilt long block crate motor. The Windsor engines are cheap and readily available. And you'll save a ton of money in shop time if you're paying someone else to do the job.

What About Blueprint Engines?

From what I hear they do a pretty good job providing cost efficient crate engines.

Also, pulling the engine and transmission together may be easier than you might think compared to just pulling the motor.
It will also allow you to inspect and possibly replace the clutch with a lot less drama.

Just lift the rear up a good bit and it makes it easier to pop the sucker out.

I went with a BluePrint long block from Summit Racing. It is being installed by James Yale at Radical Roadsters in Magnolia, Texas. He is the local Backdraft dealer.

Awesome, Which Blueprint engine did you get? Most everyone here seems to want to use the 347?

Kudos for having a shop do it, the guys at RR seem to have a good reputation.Your car will be back on the road quickly, and probably with more power than ever.

James at Radical Roadsters did a great job and the car is running really strong. I got the BluePrint stock 302 staying with stock 1991 EFI.
