As I finally approach the process of ordering an MKIV Roadster (30 year Wait), I was wondering what percentage of owners have power steering and power brakes. What steering pumps or brake boosters are they using if they aren't using a donor car, ie. complete kit/big block? Thanks

The power steering and power brake options are definately easier to use with the donor parts from a mustang, but there are aftermarket sources. If you are just building a cruiser and you dont plan on racing, the manual steering rack is not bad. If you plan on tracking the car, the power steering is a must. The challenge car guys generally run power steering and manual brakes with track pads.

If you do a complete kit and you would like to run power brakes, Disc Brakes R' Us has hydro boost set up available.

Thanks Brian for the feedback. I've got a while to decide, but should order the complete mk4 kit in a couple weeks. It's like waiting for Santa to come.

Hi Nick,

I submit my vote for power steering, even for street use (though I know it's a preference thing). I like the more modern feel, and like Brian said, it does make it much easier to drive aggressively and react quickly. Power brakes are nice too, but not as necessary in my mind.

Not sure on numbers, but from what I see for orders, it does appear that power steering cars are on the minority side.

My car doesn't have power steering or brakes... it's been on my winter mod list for a couple years though.

I don't think the cars "need" them, but my wife likes to drive too, and without ps/pb it's not easy or enjoyable for her

That's what I have thought as my wife will drive it some, but me first!

We changed the original brake zylinders (was much to tough, full power for normal brake performance)
now it is acceptable but not perfekt, the problem is that you have to bring up the preasure manual and that costs time - meters on the track
if there would be an easy way to change to a power brake, let me know ;)

the steering wheel is on the road light enough, in town getting parked to stiff for my wife
I have seen a very compact solution (3 small components)
what would be your choice?
