Does anybody have any suggestions on what tool to use to cut/shorten the cable gear from the windshield wiper motor? I have a cable/bolt cutter and a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel and also maybe other tools that I could use. Just wondering what you experts have experienced. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I used a bolt cutter, just for the ease and time saving. The cut end can be capped with a rubber tip, so you don't gouge yourself on it. You can buy a vacuum line cap assortment at most good parts stores.

Dremel with cut-off wheel here. Pretty easy.

Thanks ACBill and EdwardB. Come to think about it, i most likely will use the cut off wheel as the wiper assembly will be already placed inthe engine compartment when I cut it.

Better cover your engine, and blow everything off well after, if you do use the cutting wheel in the car, because of the metal filings.

Do I need to worry about the 'gear' wire (wrapped around the straight cable) coming unsprung and cause the pitch of the 'gear' to change when the cable is shortened by cutting off a few inches? If so, how to secure the wrap from coming unsprung?
