Clamshell front end ?

I'm wondering if anyone has converted the front sides and hood into a single clamshell, nose-hinged aka Corvettes, etc.? I loved the way my 90 Vette opened up that way. I've been looking at the parts and thinking that would let me eliminate the fitup of those parts, make it overall sturdier and smoother lines and of course be another excuse to change things up.

I don't recall any build logs doing that, but I know some non-build log guys read and post now and then.

Yeah, there's been a lot of talk on the forum but I don't think anyone has actually done it ( at least anyone who has a build thread).
It would make working on the front end a lot easier though wouldn't it.;)

If I was going to make a clamshell, I'd make the rear open up instead of the front. That's where the action is. There are but a few items up front that need servicing, vs the jewelry box in the rear.

I have a Lotus Elise with a hinged rear clam shell. It is very nice for getting quick and complete access to the engine / driveline/ etc.. It would require a light sub frame be built to add structure to the rear panels.

Hmm... maybe a new project for next winter.

I like the idea of a rear clamshell the ideal would be to have the rear open with the wing and mounts attached. And without adding weight, this is a personal OCD thing. LOL

The rear would make sense. I went to Boston last summer for the coupe add on, not sure how that would work :)

Several of us have done it on the Cobra, but I'm assuming you are talking about the 818.
Someone has to be the first. Maybe you can figure it out and post your progress. :)

I have done this. Not sure if it was worth the work, but it is nice.

I'm going for it. We've had 5 Corvettes and it just keeps coming back to liking that look. And a little more access, worth it or not.
