Exhaust Pipe Wrap

Working on Exhaust System. Coated the Firewall and Floor Panels with Sound and Ceramic Lizard Skin. SBC with Flowtech Headers. I wrapped the Mufflers. I loosely installed the Tubing to make sure everything fits. Now I want to Wrap the areas needed. I looked on-line at Summit and saw numerous types!?! Any Suggestions on
the best to use. Have you done it with Tubing installed??

I did remove the mufflers to completely double wrap them, even the ends.
I did all the pipes after I installed them on the car so I could wrap the joints too.
Look at some of the wrap that DEI sells. Buy extra stainless straps too.
If the strap locking tool doesn't come with the insulation get that too, it makes tightening the straps much easier.

Yesterday I read an article on different header and pipe wraps. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Found it, it's mostly about wrapping headers but they do talk about the different types of wraps.

The exhaust tubing should be easy to wrap on the car. Heat shielding may be more effective than wrap for the exhaust tubing and more durable. The wrap will trap moisture and lead to corrosion issues and under the car it will be more exposed to moisture.

On the hot rod you may be able to wrap the headers on the engine but it's going to be much easier off the engine. Make sure you don't cover the fasteners on your headers -- it's a full time job to keep these tight. If you use smaller tube primaries you can install the locking type fasteners but on a SBC that uses 1.75 or larger primaries that likely won't be an option as there may not be enough room for these.

I prefer the titanium wrap as it stays cleaner longer and has a higher temp rating. Don't know if there is an insulation difference between the titanium and glass fiber, both are somewhat effective at insulating but don't expect the temperature drops the manufacturers claim.

The black glass fiber wrap starts to act like it releases graphite dust after a few heat cycles and makes a mess working around it. It will turn your plug wires black if they're not already that color when you pull them to get to the plugs or the distributor. It transfers to your hands and then you leave black paw prints on everything you touch.

I just finished doing this so I can't speak to the effectiveness, I did this when it was all installed on the car, which was doable though would have been way easier not on the car. I purchased 1/4 heatshield for the pipes and muffler under the cabin, and then the Titanium exhaust wrap to wrap the pipes going from the back of the cabin, under the tank and the trunk. Products listed below, also get extra stainless straps. I am also planning lizard skin on the interior of the cabin.

Your lucky you can just drive to Summit.
I did use some aluminum heat shielding between the starter and the headers. I didn't wrap my headers, they are ceramic coated.

You did a great job. I was not planning to go all the way past the Rear. I am about 30 minutes to Summit.

That's a spare fuel filter that I've attached to the vent. In the springtime it can get pretty windy with lots of fine dust blowing around. Just trying to keep it out of the diff.

I didn't wrap anything, I just put shield between muffler and floor. Floor gets a little warm but not too bad
