View Full Version : Need help with my windshield

I'm trying to install my windshield and have noticed the bottom of the windshield hits the body at the outside edge of the windshield. I've attached a picture of the left and right sides. They are taken from inside the cockpit. I've been told that any pressure on the windshield from contact with the body is bad. Last week I posted this on the other forum, but didn't get anything definitive. Two posters confirmed they have the same condition and have used their cars without any issues. Other folks insist it isn't normal. I need to know if this is an acceptable condition or if it needs to be corrected. I assume it needs to be corrected but need to start with that question. Since the windshield contour is what it is I assume the body contour is the problem. I do have some filler in that area, but it's there and the body is painted. Would it be a good idea to file out the body in the contact area to prevent the interference or should I just leave well enough alone? I'd like to get this resolved this weekend so I hope you can help.

I wonder if your windshield is too upright? It should be at about 45 degrees. I think I once measured from the top of the windshield frame to the body behind the seats and it was 29 inches. Could be different for a mark 4

It's a Mark 3.1. The angle is at 52 degress as measured from the top of the driver door to the outside frame of the windshield.

Taken from inside the cockpit I think is the key there, angle is probably a little too much so instead of sitting down on the contour of the body its back and hits. Mine does something similar using the window mounts from Loadstone billet that sets the angle back more then stock.

I didn't touch it this weekend hoping that factory five will respond with some advice before I do something I may regret.
