SEMA 2011 Car Being Built by Customer Gary Cheney

You guys saw the concept sketches for the FFR-Koni SEMA GTM. Here's an update - The mechanicals on the car are complete and the body is being painted. We're excited about unveiling this car at the 2011 SEMA Show with the guys from Koni.

The paint doesn't quite match the model. :p

Sorry, had to throw in a funny!

Can't wait to see the final stage. This car is going to turn some heads at SEMA!

Interesting.

Maybe it's the fact that I can't even call myself an amatuer paint guy, but the blue sure looks like it's in the wrong places to be consistent with the drawing. (?)

OK, that makes more sense.

Just a personal opinion, but I like the symetrical look of the blue one that Dave posted better.

Got it finally back home this afternoon. It's so nice to be back to work on it. Hopefully transaxle going in tomorrow night, modified the MOMO seat to fit tonight. Gonna get Steve from Turner's Upholstery over here to look at reupholster the seats. Nothing like taking a sawzall to a Carbon Fiber $1,000 seat :-O

Transaxle is in, Got it 90% of the way in by myself! Thankfully BobCohen came over and helped me twist it to get it in. Finished bolting it all in and now need to figure out why I have the wrong starter seeing I have already bought two, the IMI 140N, and the MSD one, and neither is right. Remember this transaxle is the stage two which is different that the "new" one everyone else is waiting. Also got the rear grille and license plate done. Seat is over getting reupholstered. Tomorrow night hope to tackle exhaust and get the lighting bolts for the rear plate. Also mount the shifter and start trying to adjust the cables. Hoping on saturday to take it to my fabricator to make up the intake tubing and install the GMPP mass air setup in the tube. If sparky comes over Sunday MAYBE I will be able to fire it up.

Those are great news Gary!!!! I assume the stress levels are now getting lower since you are now closer to being ready for SEMA. Can't wait to see the finished car I'm sure it will be awesome.

Seeing my income is less than 30% of what it was when I used to be able to afford wheel to wheel racing, I am going to have to limit myself to a few open track events.

Gary- If it uses the same starter as on the Mendeola S5 we are using on the FFR PDG GTM race car, a Hi Torque Porsche variant, then you will need the IMI-101 starter. Of course it is best to check with Ian at Mendeola, as he will know EXACTLY what you need. ;)

I have a IMI 101, that is the WRONG starter for this transaxle. I bought the MSD starter.............that too is the WRONG starter. I had Jesper send me up the IMI140 which is the CORRECT starter for THIS transaxle. If anyone needs a 101, or the MSD one, I can give you a great deal on either.

Just wondering.

Why would you have an IMI-101 for your anticipated FFR Mendeola SDR gearbox that hasn't shown up yet, as it has been specified from day one to be the IMI-140 that will be needed?

I am as baffled as you are. Don't know where either I got that info from, or i hit the keys wrong, or I got sent the wrong one. I know I ordered the MSD one when the post about needing it appeared a month or so ago. Also don't forget, this car building stuff is just one of my four or five hobbies, with running a construction company and racing dirtbikes having priority over the gtm stuff. It's tough keeping track of it all. That's why I like building cars during the winter instead of summer and fall.

I hear ya. Between three businesses, building a car, taking care of four acres of land, racing the FFRR PDG GTM with Richard, and a family, it does get a little overwhelming sometimes. :)

LOL!

Yeah it's rough, I have to wash and polish the Benz, and then I have to take my trophy wife and her GFs out for drinks later. I can't believe they want me to take a shower...:D

We're going to some movie premier thing or another, and I have to take them to some "after party" something or other. Sheesh, my life SUCKS!!

(Just kidding...I drive a 200k mile American made...well, American BADGED...SUV, and none of that other stuff is true either. I'm going home from the day job to cut brush with a weed whacker in about 95 degree heat. Life could be a lot worse though...)
