I'm in the planning phase of building a 65 Coupe and new to the FFRF. First I considered a 351w with stack injection from reallycoolparts.com. I was told the deck height with stack setup won't have clearance on hood. I thought I read Russ Thompson did this if so what if any modifications were needed? What kind of HP, MPG, Torque did this set up provide? I also found a 4.6L At SeanHylandMotorsport with Stack injection 450HP $16,000 which seems bit pricey but I get best of both worlds. What real benefits are there with 4.6 dohc 4v over 351w engine? The Boss 302 @ 414HP seems promising compromise.car will be street use with occasional trip to track.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and go with the 302. If I had it to do over again I would go with the 347 stroker. More clearance for the headers and induction system and everything is cheaper and more abundant.

All the info I have collected says the 302 is the way to go and like already mentioned a 347 would be really nice. Dave Smith told me that with the stock pipes anything over 450hp is wasted due to the restrictions caused by the stock pipes. It all comes down to how much do you want to spend and how fast is fast enough..... :)

Or unzip that 46 jacket with the 65 sleeves and prove to the world that you've totally lost it!:D

Now since most people don't have Bill Gates checkbook balance and realistically we're dealing with 2300lbs
I think the 302,347 or the Coyote engine would give you more than enough to impress the friends and guarantee you enough power to
keep your walls covered with speeding tickets!:D
Best of luck whatever you decide.

All thanks so much for the help. Im sure the 347 is the best way to go for all the right reasons, cost, reliability, power to weight ratio, fit and Im sure countless other reasons. Im just checking out another option using a 363 using a Dart block that has 500+ HP/460TQ. If you think that extra HP will get wasted in tirespin or drivability feel free to say so. The $$$ Ill save on the 347 will allow me to get the Stack injection set up. The extra cost in 363 may have look at less eye candy for EFI. The tip on the pipes is incredibly helpful, why pay for HP Ill never get to use!!! Does anyone have any thoughts about performance from a stack set up? I see quite a few people doing it. Great for looks but at $3 - $5K is there anything noticable other than eyecandy?

I don't think the stack injection will fit under the hood, as for the pipes, there are pipes made for our cars that don't restrict. Karen salvaggio ( vnmsss) is running them on her Coupe and they are gorgious!

LS,
A good book to check out is Ford Engine Buildups by Evan J. Smith. It has a lot of good information about the pros and cons of the various Ford Windsor small block combinations, especially the 302-based engines. I recall it covering a buildup of an engine using the big bore Dart 302-based block, or a similar aftermarket block (World Products perhaps). It was a massive amount of good info for $20.

I also agree that the 302-based engines are a good choice for the reasons recognized. For a litany of reasons, I am trying to keep my engine, electronics, exhaust, gauges and fuel system as straightforward as possible, and using a 302-based engine furthers that goal. Perhaps 10 years from now I'll have the skills for something more exotic in those areas, but for now keeping it simple = keeping it fun. Good luck with your build.

Here is the info you need for the pipers.

Hello Bob,

We are building 2 versions of the single side pipe for the coupe,

Race version - All stainless steel, light weight and rebuildable with v-band clamps at the tail pipe for easy tailpipe configuation changes. $1450.00 pair

Economy version - mild steel, black high temp painted finish. $875.00 pair lots of optional coatings available at my cost.

Both are same basic Look exept the race version alows many options for core size and tail pipe configurations to tailor the muffler to the sound requirment of the perticular track you might be running at. The economy version is fully wellded and can not be repacked and the tail pipe is in a fixed position. If this is going to be a week end cruser and will not see the race track, the economy version would be fine. with a 2.5" core and 30" long muffler these are still very agressive sounding mufflers, not UGLY LOUD like the factory pipes and the packing will last a long time with just street driving.
The last test we ran with 2.5" cores in the mufflers the car made 40 more horespower than the factory pipes, was quieter and sounds much better.

I hope this helps, call me any time if you need more Info.
