I finished the two door skins for the custom doors I am making. Here is what the door skins look like.

The other one still in the mold.

For some background. I am using hardware from a Ford Contour so I took molds off a couple of Contour doors. I then made new door handle recesses in fiberglass. I cut the doors apart that came with the kit. I bonded and glassed in the door recesses. I modified the door shape a little to work with the new fenders I had made previously. Now I had the plugs to make the molds. I then made door skin molds. I now have the new door skins which will work with my changes. It was a lot of work, but I like the result. Here is a couple of pictures of the passenger door plug in place during mock up. This will give everyone an idea of what the final door will look like.

Thanks guys. I took some pictures today of the steps to the pieces. The "plug", the "mold" and the final piece.

NOTE: In the second picture, that is expandable foam on the mold. I did this to make a flat surface on the bottom to make it easy to work with the mold.

Thanks for the pics Ron, it adds to what we talked about the other night. Love how much work your willing to do to make it the way you want.

You are welcome and thanks.

I plan to document the supplies and steps in a couple of build articles on my blog. The first one is supplies. It will be located at

The door skins are now trimmed of excess fiberglass and fitted to the door openings. The door handle openings are cut and the door handles installed.
