Wanting to update my dash in my MK 2. FFR offers a vinyl dash with the glove box that shows MK 3 & MK 4 only due to steering wheel location. Has anyone tried modifying one to fit a MK 2. Seems like it would be an easy mod if relocating the Steering column opening is the only issue. Thoughts?

Can't give you too much help because I haven't had a Mk2, so don't know the specifics. But I have had my hands on one of those dashes, so a couple comments. First, unlike the kit dash that's aluminum and then covered with the padding and material of your choice, the optional pre-finished dash is all plastic. The covering material appears to be part of the molding process. So covering, a thin layer of padding, and then a plastic back. All are kind of sandwiched together. If you cut the steering wheel opening to be different than delivered, you'll have open plastic, padding, and covering. Guys have cut theirs, e.g. to put in the Russ Thompson turn signal assembly, and doesn't appear to come loose or creep away from the edge. But it's decidedly unfinished. All to say that you'll probably want some kind of trim ring or bezel between the old opening, new opening, and your new steering wheel location.

I've dealt with the molded dashes also and will be a little more blunt...it'll probably look pretty cheesed up.

Good luck!

Buy a blank aluminum dash, and cut your own holes. where needed, or desired.
