Have some trouble with the install of my Walbro 255 LPH in tank pump.

The rectangular filter that is supposed to attach to the bottom of the pump is not engaging. Either the pump inlet is too large or the filter opening is too small but the filter won't stay attached.

Anyone have similar issues and/or fixes?

You're talking about the rectangular "sock" that goes on the bottom of the fuel pump? Engages a round extension on the bottom of the fuel pump into a mating location roughly in the center of the sock? If so, I'm sure you've seen the metal clip retainer on the sock filter. You have to have it lined up just right and get a solid push for that retainer to engage onto the fuel pump. I use the edge of my workbench and put a little weight into it. Can be stubborn, but you have to push hard enough for the metal retainer fingers to flex. Wait until you try to get it back off.

That's exactly the issue I'm having. I'll just have to try pushing harder.
Thanks for the feedback.

Those are tough to press on. I found that a strategically placed hose clamp held the pump in place while pressed the sock on (remove the clamp when done).
Be forewarned, the sock has a specific orientation fore & aft. Drop the pump in the tank, and look through the filler hole with a flashlight.
