View Full Version : Mk IV roadster light switch sticking

The FFR light switch that I purchased for my Mk IV is installed in the dash, but when I rotate the handle to change the instrument illumination brightness, unless I am really careful, it sticks in fully on position. The only way to free it is to remove the switch and release the wiper on the potentiometer that catches past the end of the pot coils. This cannot be right. Is there a stop missing? Is this a known problem with the switches? Should I monkey with the switch to add a stop?

Any advice? I have been go-karting, so getting to the switch has been only a minor PITA, but I am about to leather cover the dash for final install, and then on goes the body. A fix before that would probably be a good idea...

TIA
Chris

Haven't had that particular issue with the switch, but doesn't sound good. Personally, I'd replace it before it gets buried and even harder to change out. If it's a new part from your kit, likely FF would replace it. But it would be another like that one, Instead, get a genuine branded ACDelco D1588. I've personally found it to be higher quality than the reproduction switch FF provides, and is plug and play with the RF harness and headlight plug. Doesn't come with a nut or pull knob, but the ones from your current switch will fit. Widely available, including special order (typically) at your local parts store. I get them in two days from Amazon for a good price: https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-D1588-Original-Equipment-Headlamp/dp/B000C9SAJC.

Excellent Idea! I will get one on order in about 10 minutes!

Thank God for Amazon!

Thanks!
