What size screws for hood scoop?

I want to use SS screws for the hood scoop. What is the recommended size and what washers work best?

8-32 x 5/8" Button Socket Head Screw, 304SS (18-8SS)
8-32 Hex Nut, Nylon Insert Self Locking, 304SS (18-8SS)
#8 Flat Washer, 304SS (18-8SS)

I used 17 each on my scoop, starting 3/4" from the front and spaced 3-3/8" apart.
The odd screw is in the center rear of the scoop.

Thanks for the info.! I'll take a set. Do you have a part number on your website? Also, still very interested in the SS roll bars if a set can be shipped soon. If not, I'll finish my car using the FF bars.

If you intend to have stripes and have not already cut the scoop hole or drilled the hood PLEASE do not. It can lead to all kinds of trouble because what you think is the center probably is not.

Seems like it would be okay to cut the hole in the hood using Jeff's technique of using the underside of the hood indents and using his measurements.

Borders 1 1/2 inches Rear and Sides, and 3 inches Front in from the under hood indent. And 3 1/2 inch hole saw for each of the corners.

Now I can see drilling the Hood Scoop holes into the hood being a problem for the stripe painter.

Which brings me to my question.

Jeff, how do you determine Hood Scoop placement?

I would think you would have to drill the holes before painting body color or strips.

I use 10-32 SS button heads for the hood scoop. But the 8-32's would be OK too.

Since cutting the hood scoop was also mentioned, here's my suggestion. Mount the hood scoop first. Then use the mounting holes to exactly locate the cutout. There have been several posts about builds that cut the hole first and then found it was incorrect in some way. Not good. Obviously getting the hood scoop in the proper location, centered, etc. is very important. Especially if adding stripes. As Jeff said, leaving to him (or other painters) may be the best choice. Just depends on your situation and plan.

8-32 button heads are already .308" OD so for me no need to go any larger.
A 1/8" rivet head is about .25"

If you want I have a half box of the button heads I used on my scoop 8-32 and I polished the heads on the buffer so they look like chrome. I don’t have extra acorn nuts but if you want the screws let me know.
