Any type 65s going to NASA championchip

How everybody. First time poster. Me and my dad are planning on getting a type 65 in the future and running it in the NASA ST2 class.. Well be at COTA on Sunday to watch the championchip races and I donÂ’t see any coupes on the entry list.

Just wondering if there might be one there that we could look at.

Search here and google John George. He had one of the very first current generation coupes that was a great race car even if he did have tags on it.

John George sold his Gen 3 Type R coupe. I understand that the guy that bought it will be racing it somewhere.

John was incredibly fast in his Gen 3 coupe.

It is an awesome coupe.


But just remember the rules for NASA ST2 are biased AGAINST Factory Fives.

We tried every legal combination we could think of and it came down to Johns driving that put him in front.


we were penalized for the tube chassis, and the areo.

so we had to run more weight and less HP.


we ran a smaller tire combo because we needed new tires every weekend and the smaller more common tires
are less money.

Not to hijack the thread but could the coupe run Super Unlimited? Would it be competitive?
A friend campaigns Vipers in SU, does quite well too.

there will be a REALLY fast Coupe-R in NASA SU hopefully by mid-next year........really fast.....:)

BTW Gents: Troy Messer, the only guy who has done a documented 200mph in a GTM, took the TTU national championship in his Corvette. He would normally run ST1 but couldn't due to a fueling issue limiting the number of laps he could do, so moved over to ST1 time trial. After stomping the ST1 field on Saturday he ran high on the dyno and was disqualified (oops). Seems the motor builder miscalculated how much hp we would gain once the motor had some break in laps. Rather than tune the motor we just stripped out all the weight, uncorked the motor, and ran TTU on Sunday. Nobody stood a chance. :)

Can't wait to see an unlimited class 65 coupe running.
