Does anyone have links or info on how these rear intake mods were done?

Kinda look like the inserts FFR sells for the 818. A hand full of builders have also slit, increased the opening by a inch or so and re-fiberglassed. I can't recall who Metro maybe. Who ever it is they have done a nice job. I don't see the FFR inserts on the parts page that I thought they were making for the rear ducts.

Those look like a custom modification of the side scoops. If you search for Wayne's 818 from verycoolparts.com, you will see a much larger version that FFR made a very limited production run of. Call Wayne at 760-403-6266 for more details. He may be able to convince FFR to make another batch of them in fiberglass. I will buy a pair if they do.

What I'm really wondering is if I could open up that area enough, and have enough room in the engine bay, to do a split radiator the way some people do AWICs...
Thoughts?

I tried to do a rear radiator (against the back wall). I was getting good air through the side vents. But there is high pressure behind the car preventing the are from getting out. You can see some of the air flow in this video near the end at the 2:16 mark.

I think that was one of the reasons that Jim at FFR suggested to me not to open up the area between the tail lights. Bob it would be interesting to do a redneck test with the area between the taillights closed off on your car.

This is my flimsy Yard stick video. My rear radiator fan was pushing air out at about 10 mph. As we drove, I saw no increase in that velocity. At this point I did not have any rear sheet metal installed. Also no rear diffuser.

In my non-expert, complete amateur, curiosity I would think that since you have a larger area for air to get out than for air to get in then you should expect less velocity out the back.
I also speculate, in my total naivety, that if you have good flow in the side intake vents and were to mount two half sized radiators in them then that should work so long as the air has somewhere to go afterwards because it is "forced" to go through the radiators just like through AWICs (and that supposedly works).
Does that make sense or am I so completely clueless I should not even consider it?

Your logic makes sense. I tried to do a rear radiator for about 6 months. I finally gave up and went to a front mounted radiator.
I think there is a fair amount of air going in the side vents. Just not enough for the radiators.
Think about all the mid-engine cars out there. Then count how many have the radiator in side vents.

I remember talking to someone at FF about where the air goes when I was doing some work on my front brake rotor cooling. I know that Chad ran some 3" duct from the side scoops to the oil cooler in the back, which has fans and "forced air". Seems to work OK at this point.
