I was looking at the Mk 4 Roadster and am comfortable with how I will fit in it. Then, I noticed the 289 USRRC and really like the opportunity to make a tribute car to Ken Miles' CSX 2431. However, the FFR literature refers to the 289 USRRC/FIA as the 'smaller cousin' to the Mk 4 or something like that. Does the 289 actually have a smaller cockpit?

Thanks!

Terry

The 289 uses the same frame and mechanical components as the MKIV. Couple small variations but they don't affect cockpit room except the petty bar intrudes more on the passenger. My wife actually likes it since it gives her something solid to hold onto when getting in and out. And when I take a corner a bit aggressively... The nose openings are smaller and the body is less "bulgy".

That is super good news, thanks! Coincidentally, I just happened to be looking at your #8833 in the gallery. It's absolutely beautiful. Congratulations.

If the body is less "bulgy", can you still run the same size tires/wheels as a Mk4?

I have meaty 15s. There is a balancing act between rim size and sidewall so you could probably run larger size rims with lower profile tires. FFR can probably give you some suggestions.

https://youtu.be/bxQPbOZjXkYI’m running 245/45/17s in the front and 295/40/17s in the rear of my USRRC.FFR says 315/40/17s will fit on the rear. Looking at my setup you might squeeze the 315s in. Wheels are FFR 17 x9” Halibrands all around
