Has anyone had a issue when mounting their state issued license plate on the trunk?
My problem is this, the lower edge of a Missouri plate doesn’t clear the trunk latch handle.
What to do? Cut a clearence opening in the lower edge of the plate? Don’t think our state police would find this accep.
All suggestions are welcome. Thanks

The "Kleiner Mod" is one that many use:

This is discussed a lot. I've personally done the "Kleiner mod" a couple times. For #8674, also switched the incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs. A really nice mod copied from another forum member. MAL-S-WW2 Warm White with Silver Housing, LED license plate bolt lights from superbrightleds.com. Not only do they provide better light, longer life, and lower current draw, they are sealed and water is not an issue. The lights need to modded anyway, so it's really easy just to replace them with the LED's. These are pics from my build. Also requires the different mounting bracket shown, an easy fab from a piece of aluminum.

Or just do this. You don't even notice unless you look closely.

Kleiner mod here too. I converted to LED's with the mod. Plus, during the body work, I had the pad on the trunk lid centered to the right a bit, and moved up about a 1/4 inch or so. That took care of having to notch that last little bit of the bottom of the plate.

Like has been already said... Kleiner Mod. My personal take on it. Used a small pair of low profile LED lights mounted up inside the housing.
And a simple metal trim ring, cut down and holed out to keep the edges looking cleaner... er.. Kleiner?

Modified the Kleiner Mod slightly. Noched the plate at the top & wrapped the cut in electrical tape. Did not change the electrics. Cut a slot in the lense & bonded the plate to the FFR cross piece. Did not touch the bottom of the plate because I wanted the "1965" to show.

91416 I cut a hole in mine. I was told that as long as the state name and your number are visible there should not be an issue. I added a frame and LED back-up lights.
