I'm starting the Registration process for NYS and I submitted my applications two weeks ago and got a notice from Albany that in order to get to the next step I have to provide documentation of FULL emissions compliance for my Roadster which has a 2018 Coyote engine.
According to the notice the emission standards for the year of the engine is what I have to comply with. I have the Gas-N side pipes.
I was not planning on having catalytic converters.
Has anyone had experience in getting a NYS registration for upstate NY?

Spoke with NYS in Albany and here is what I understand I did wrong on the application:
I should have put for year of car "1965 Cobra Replica" and for the engine "Application year 1967 302" That way I only have to meet the emission requirements for 1967 302 which was (according to Albany) a PCV valve and Air cleaner.
So I have to submit a letter to them stating the change of the application and we will see where that goes.
I'm hoping for getting this on the road by 3rd week of August in gelcoat to have a few weeks of fun.:)

I live in Syracuse and I'm getting close to starting the registration process. Why would you put 1967 302 and not 1965? I know in 1965 they had a 289 and not a 302, but they are the same block. My understanding is 1966 and up also require a thermostatic air cleaner. My build is a carb'd 302 with pcv only, so I need to make sure I get this part right.

Just wondering if the people in this post from upstate NY had any success getting their cars through the registration process. If yes, please let me know what you did. I'm in Canandaigua and I'm considering a Type 65 Coupe with a 302 engine.
Thanks,
Jim

There are a number of threads on this. Search NY Registration. There is one in particular from 2018 that breaks it down step by step. I’ll update with a link later when I’m near my computer.
My understanding is it’s the era of the engine. 302’s get registered all the time in NY without emissions. Interesting with the OP though, he basically told you to lie. Curious if that works. It is my understanding that 302 needs a PCV, 4.6 on up needs OBD port and coyote needs emissions. Long Island and down state has a different set of rules as well.

I live in upstate NY, outside Albany. I used a 1996 4.6 L motor. My car is registered and titled as a "2017 Factory Five". I did not use cats. If you want to hear about my experience, PM me and we can talk. It was a little stressful, but in the end was uneventful. Annual inspections, while still stressful, are not a problem provided you go to a shop that "knows how to inspect these cars." That's the expression the shops use.
