I purchased the assembled louvers from FFR and had the cutouts for them done at the factory. The approximate size of the cutout from the factory are 6 7/8" in length and 4 1/2" in height. I knew I would need to trim them to make the louvers fit correctly. The approximate size of the louvers is 8 9/16" length and 4 5/8" height. To make the louvers fit correctly it seems I need to cut out a good amount of fiberglass. What I though would be trimming and fitting now appears to be cutting and reshaping. Before I do that I just wanted to see if I've missed something. The picture below shows about how much fiberglass would need to be removed to make the louvers fit. Is this typical? I used the bottom of the factory cutout as the reverence point and assume most material would need to be removed toward the rear of the car?
What am I missing here??? Help!
Thanks

Joel,
After trimming the openings for my louvers, my openings are 7"x5".

When I installed the Louvers on my roadster, theopening in the fiberglass overhung the louvers by 3/16” all the way around. It seemed that most photos of cobras I’ve seen look like this

The factory cuts are for the bend 'em yourself louvers. This is not the proper size, angle or corner radius for the assembled variety. I have a template I use for the assembled ones---shoot me a PM with an address and I'll send you a copy.

Guys,
I've had a few of you sending PMs asking for the template. Happy to send them out but they are cardboard---can't send that via e-mail or through Private Message replys ;) I need a snail mail address!
Here's a tracing showing how the assembled louver cut line compares to the FFR cutouts (which I have found vary widely):

BTW, a 1 1/2" sanding drum in a pneumatic die grinder or drill is perfect for the corner radius.
Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, Thank you for everything. It looks as if you sort of split the difference, front to back, when enlarging the cutout. Is that correct? Joel
