I want to build a Mk. IV roadster and I am doing some parts planning. I don't understand what is in the Standard Width IRS on the parts website. Here are my questions:

1. Is the "center section" (i.e. differential, housing kit/girdle) listed on the website part of the standard width IRS kit or will I have to get my own?

2. I am looking at a Ford Racing Tremec transmission (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=6886), and the 5.0L modular engine(coyote). Do I need to purchase a separate differential/housing kit/girdle that will work with this transmission or if the housing kit/girdle comes with the IRS from FFR will my transmission choice work with the FFR parts?

3. Will the Tremec transmission that I have selected (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=6886) fit the Mk. IV roadster?

4. Does Factory Five offer the headers now for the 5.0L Coyote installation in a Mk. IV roadster?

5. Are the parts used (CV joints, spindles, housing kit/girdle, and hubs) in the standard width IRS kit re-built parts or new?

6. Can I use my own housing kit/girdle/differential in the IRS setup? Namely, this kit from Ford (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=13031) and the differential (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=6628)?

I have a lot of questions that I need to clarify before I start going crazy!

1. The standard width IRS option includes the cage and mounts for the IRS center section and control arms, the axle shafts with the CV joints, and the rear IRS coil overs. It does not include the center section, sindles hubs or brakes.

2. We do not currently offer a complete IRS. You will need to find components from a Thunderbird Super Coupe or a Lincoln Mk8. The Thunderbird IRS components are only rated for about 420hp. You are right at the limit for those components if you run the new 5.0 engine.

3. The Tremec TKO500 will fit in our kit without any problems.

4. The Coyote engine is still not a direct install in our kit yet. You will have to fabricate headers and an oil pan along with some other modifications. There are threads on people who are currently installing the new 5.0, but we do not have a bolt in kit for it yet.

5. The only part that is included in the IRS option are the axle shafts with the CV's. They are new.

6. Our kit is set up to use Thunderbird and Lincoln Mk8 components ONLY. The C*bra Mustang IRS will not work in our kit. The spindes are different, the track width is too wide and the axle shafts are a different spline.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for the response. I will need to think about this some more. My preference is to use the Mustang parts from Ford racing in lieu of salvage/used parts from a donor. Re-building the parts myself is not an option for me and I wanted components that were more durableand future upgrade friendly.

I don't like being a downer but this kit project may not get off the ground. Was looking forward to this too!

Thanks again for the help Brian.

What is the most horse power any IRS can take and what did it come in?

Thanks,
