Since I was 15 I've wanted to build a Cobra, and 36 years later I'm going to finally do it.

Looking to speak with builders in the Houston area especially to get some insight on the process. What would you do differently? Would you build it again or have it built? Etc.

Also will need paint sources around here. I'd prefer a shop familiar with these cars if at all possible.

Thanks in advance!

Saleen,

There are professional builders out there that can build a car for you if desired; however, none that come to mind are near Houston.
My suggestion is to get the assembly manual and read it a couple of times and maybe even consider going to the build school at Motts.
In the meantime, you can start your journey simply by watching these assembly videos when you have the time to spare.

20 yrs ago I got the manual and read it over and was convinced I wanted to build it myself. I had more time then money. So finally a few days ago I took the plunge. With forum we hav a lot of experience to guide us newbies. Good luck with your decision.

Saleen,
In Houston there is a builder that can help you, he is James Yale at Radical Roadsters. http://www.radicalroadsters.com/ You can see what the locals are doing on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Houstoncobraclub/ Lots of great folks in that group. But be careful ALL Cobra owners love spending other people's money. You should come the the Octcobra Fest event in Kerrville in October or the Texas Cobra Club Spring Meet the first weekend in April. http://www.texascobrameet.com/ The event info. will be updated in a month or so for the 2020 event. PM me if you need any more info.

Congrats on the plunge! I live in Houston Heights. I built my Mk 1.5 in 2002 using a 1991 Mustang donor so my building experience is a bit dated. I can attest to the excellent work of a James Yale at Radical Roadsters in Magnolia. I’d be happy to show you my car and compare notes.
