Need a little help..

I have the Russ Thompson gas pedal and the factory throttle cable from the 2004 Mach1. I don't like the sloppy fit of the cable at the gas pedal. I've been searching for a Lokar cable but I am not really sure which one to go with. If anyone could point me in a better direction I would greatly appreciate it.

You should consider building or buying a throttle linkage and forget the cable. There are enough threads you can search on the forums to get a parts list or just look into a Fortes kit. It would be one less thing to worry about breaking when out on the road.

I built throttle linkage with parts from McMaster Carr, it’s easy...in my opinion you’re asking a lot of a cable to make 2 180’s?

Look at edwardb's build thread for I beleive his second roadster. He has a detailed parts list. I used it to assemble my mechanical throttle with the Russ Thompson gas pedal. Everything looks and works great

This is the referenced post. Was before Mike had his available and is slightly cheaper if you like shopping and a little fabrication. I highly recommend the mechanical linkage over a cable. Wouldn't be particularly easy to add to a completed car, so now's the time to do it.

Thanks for all the great replies. This is somewhat of an ignorant question, "does the throttle linkage only work in a north/south configuration?" My throttle pull is from the driver side to the passenger side, aka, east-west. Not to second guess anyone, or their preference, but wouldn't a vehicle with relatively low miles driven per year with a throttle cable last quite some time? I know the odds of durability are in favor of a car with linkage, but what are the odds of a failure with a cable ?

Well, that 2004 Mustang you pulled the cable from and millions of others just like it usually live their entire life with the same cable that they left the factory with.

I think you are correct as long as you use a Ford cable and it doesn't have any more bends than it did in the Mustang. Most comparisons are between a lokar and a linkage. My experience is that the linkage is so much better I would never again consider a cable.

Also I wasn't having much success making my own threaded rod so I got these from Mcmaster-Carr 1 ea 6516K118 connecting rod 9" overall length and 1 ea 6516K14 connecting rod 12" overall length. Both are 1/4"-28 thread. I did have to shorten them slightly but was not a problem.

IMO reliability isn't really a valid reason to go linkage, but looks and most importantly feel are two very good reasons for the mod. Linkage will remove any of the slop that the OP stated as a concern. For me, I made an adjustable linkage that allows full throttle at the pedal to vary from 20% to 100% at the throttle body. Kind of a low tech valet mode.
