I know this has been posted before, but I can't seem to locate the thread. I need the correct backspacing for a Mk4 with an 04 8.8 solid axle. I would like to use 18" wheels, but 17" are not ruled out either. There are plenty of wheels out there for me to choose, but I need to know WHICH wheels to choose. Backspacing on the front wheels would also be appreciated.

Back wheel size: 18 x 10 or 17 x10.5
Front wheel size: 18 x 9 or 17 x 9

Thanks in advance, Mike.

If you click on the Roadster link near the top of the Home Page that will take you to the Wiki. The article you are looking for is in the Wiki under Roadster - Wheels and Tires, but here is a direct link:

Offset on the front can be a issue too depending on which control arms and spindles you have. Ask me how I figured that out.....

Yeah I read about wheels over 7" would contact the factory control arms. So it looks like the F5 control arms have been added to the list, because I want 8" or 9" wheels on the front. My original post was wrong, I have a 94 rear end. Too many parts laying around, getting confused. I have the complete drivetrain, but no kit to put it in.

Due to the fact that I have a 94 rear end and would like to run a 10.5" wheel it states that I must change the axles and the caliper brackets to match the width of the 87-93 rear end. Is that all I have to change ? Specific part numbers? Also is there another way to run a 10.5" wheel with the 94 rear end ?

Talk to Richard Oben at North Racecars (http://northracecars.com/Brakes.html) for caliper relocation brackets and axles. He can also advise you about custom backspacing for wheels to keep the SN95 width but I have little doubt that the caliper relocation/axle change will be your least costly option.

Richard, which would be the better (meaning cheaper) option: custom backspacing wheels, or the axle/caliper relocation brackets? I am planning on a gear swap in the rear end, so it is going to be opened anyway. Another thing is who makes custom backspaced wheels for a reasonable price ?

Thanks in advance, Mike.

It will be much less to swap the axles and brackets than to get custom backspacing. The bonus is 3/4 inch deeper dish and the availability of many aftermarket wheels. HTH, Richard.

Richard, I went to your site and looked at the axle/bracket package. So that's all there is to it? Seems pretty straight forward. I agree that is probably the best option for me.

Thanks again, Mike.

It is as simple as it sounds. there is no reason to bleed the brakes when doing the job, it is that easy. HTH, Richard.
