Just curious, which location did you go to for the VIN, and what documentation did they ask for? I am in Mass and hoping to go through this next spring with my 33. Think you can make it to FF5 for the cruise Saturday?

Excellent News on the life exception !
Wondering the same regarding the crush route. Any challenges finding a car the met the criteria ?

Got my VIN through the Westfield MA location, had the documentation/receipts where I got the kit, the engine block, transmission & rear end a long with the receipts for the engine build. Didn't go the crusher route, located a pre-73 block, sent the casting information to the DEP to confirm the year of production (1969). After the VIN was assigned went to the MAC and showed the VIN, registration information and engine block receipt. They plugged in the information on the year of the engine 1969, with some pictures hit enter and all I need to do is go back to garage were inspected and get a valid sticker.. Went a lot easier than I expected, State Police were accommodating, the MAC guy was very helpful.

Whoa, that's awesome !!
I did not know you could just locate a pre-73 engine/block only and do the exception that way ?
I've been poking around for a pre-73 car with little luck.
Did the block need to show it was in the road (in a car) registered w/in the past couple years as I understood this to be a requirement ?
This is very enlightening and will make life a whole lot easier.
Thanks !!

Didn't have to show it was installed and on the road at all in the recent past. Just the receipt stating block casting information and the partial VIN stamped into the block. Based on this information I was able to identify the car it came from and had that added to the receipt. The casting number and date code was sent to the DEP to ensure it was pre-73 and didn't require a crushed vehicle, have a email from DEP stating such. This helped with getting it through the MAC I think. The guy I got my 351W block from had a vintage 302 block he was parting with, might still have it if that's the size your looking for.

Thanks for the detail and the offer on the 302. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the block number you used is the block for the engine in the car, correct ?

The block casting number identified the pedigree of the engine, there was also a VIN for the vehicle stamped in the block that identified the car/model

got it, that defnelty allows you to circumvent the crush route. I am using a coyote so I think I need to stay the course (need to start hunting for a viable crush donor).
Congrat's on the sticker !!
at the rate I'm going this is my goal for 2019 ...

MA emissions exempt certificate adds value to your car if sold in MA later on. The next buyer skips the crush car/paperwork hassle.
