I recently go carted and thought I had the sticky emergency brake issue figured out. Evidently I didn’t and fried my left rear caliper. Factory five is on back order until at least the end of June. Can anyone confirm that they are from an 87-88 T bird so I can purchase one sooner online.

Thanks

The original IRS was 89-97 T bird.

89-92 (91 or 92, I forget?) T bird had a thicker rotor.

93-97 T bird had a thinner rotor.

Pads, calipers + rotors do not interchange between the two designs (without possibility of catastrophic failure if you mix the wrong parts together).

I have no recollection of a 87-88 T bird caliper being commonly applied to these cars, but that doesn't mean that's not what you have...

Back in the old days, 87-88 Turbo T bird rotors and calipers were a common upgrade to a donor 8.8 straight axle.

Thanks all. FFR said 87-88 Tbird. They said there not suppose to tell us but he believed that’s what it is.

If it is 4 lug it is 87-88 T bird, IRS is as listed above, 5 lug should be 94-04 Mustang GT or Cobra. Unless FFR has done something completely different. Richard.

Thanks for clarifying. I have a 5 lug and three link rear suspension. I will go for the 94-04 rear caliper.

I have the 87-88 T-Bird TC brakes on the rear of my MKII and if I remember correctly they use the D347 pad and have a 45mm piston diameter.

Hopefully this might help you confirm what you have. Scott

Thanks. I spoke to Jim Schenck today and he verified that they now use brake calipers from an 87-88 tbird turbo coupe.

That really surprises me. What is the diameter of your rotors ? 87-88 Turbo Tbird rotors are only 10.25 inches, and only avail as a 4 lug unless they are re-drilled.

Derald, they are only using the caliper not the rotor.
