In the following posting Bill_VA indicates that the there was a change to the MkIV chassis to add a 3/4" sq brace/beam above and possibly a bit behind the IRS diff. From what I can tell it adds a brace between the diagonal frame members that hold the IRS diff in place.

Can anyone tell me why it was added? What is it supposed to do?

I have a bit more chassis work planned and could easily add this if necessary and beneficial. Challenge Car chassis #8885 2016 mfg.

Thanks,

Jim

Hey Jim. This explanation was posted last year by Jim Schenck from Factory Five on the other forum. Doesn't look like you need to do anything.

"The bar was added for manufacturing purposes as the complete assemblies are made in a separate fixture and then transferred to the frame. The bar helps maintain the spacing between the frame rails so that the assembly will drop in place as opposed to having to be hand fit. No strength issues on the chassis that do not have them in place as there is a redundant bar that is nearby that serves as part of the trunk floor."

Thanks Paul. Saves some work and that is where I hope to put a smaller battery like the Braille 3121. Jim
