Well after 11 years of service my old starter was having problems turning the car over when hot. Upon removal of the bottom bolt the starter just fell out, the top ear was completely broken off. By the scarring on the bellhousing the ear had been broken for some time. I replaced the starter with a '94 5.0L geared permanent magnet unit from Advance Auto. It works great now, but I must say it seems to turn the car over a little slower than the old direct drive electro magnet unit did in it's prime. The new starter is very quiet and I do like that as well.

While I had the car on jackstands, I took the opportunity to change my 350lb rear springs on the Koni's to 250lb Eibach units. I originally had Bilsteins with 250lbs springs and I liked the feel of that combo. I am going to try the Konis with the 250lb springs for a while. My initial impression is good. I do like the softer ride.

It looks like you might have gotten your money's worth out of the old starter. May it rest in peace! :)

Bobby; good to see you still lurking around, we think about you and Becky each time we pass thru Spartanburg headed to the mountains

I think I'm going to haVE TO TRY some softer springs too. If I could get half that out of my starters I'd be happy.
