First post here. My all time favorite car is the $helby Cobra, non-$helby is the 69 Mach 1. I love the look and concept of the GTM. The Daytona Coupe and GT40 are American heroes in my mind. Also, lately, Ive been on a old school 1920's -1940's hot rod mind set as of late. But anyway. My first post is in the 818 thread for a reason. Hopefully this isnt to late for Dave. Here is my proposal. Completely original design on my part. Nobody makes this, not even the big blue oval. Obviously Im being condicending, but no body makes this. How hard would this be to one off (not the technology but just the look), I wonder if there would be enough interest from all of you for FFR to offer this.

That is one ugly car. If this somehow became the 818 I would be out of here like a scalded cat.

I've always liked the Indigo concept myself.

A couple of front engined cars I'd toss in the same corner:

Michigan0626, Welcome to the forum. I wonder why nobody makes that car? Obviously, it appealed to a designer at one time. There are probably fans that would like to see it built. But, I suspect that in the big scheme of things, that design would not sell well. But, that is just my opinion, which like other things, everybody has them. :)

Man, If i could somehow find a way to build this or find someone that can build it, I would stuff the Ford designed/Aston Martin V12 in the back of this thing. This thing is built for mountain curves.

Put some hydraulics on that front splitter thingy and you'd have great snow shovel.

Well, I would have found a kinder way of saying it, but I agree.

Aside from aesthetics -- some folks who like radical designs WILL like it, though it's definitely not for me-- Michigan0626 is in fact a little late to the party. There are about 700 other designs that would get looked at first.

I'm still on-again-off-again working on another design myself.

It takes time for all the thoughts and influences to settle and just let something "happen".

Is it just my impression, or could you tweek the body of the '33 Hot Rod to get something very similar to at least the Prowler.

Minor tweeks to the frame would have to be made to get it close to the Indigo concept.

Its attractive and could be done very agffordably no doubt..................not as attractive as many of the othere submissions however.

That 64 Cougar is HOTTTTTT!

I don't know about that '64 Cougar. Looks to me like that front end would pack air under it like nobody's business. I can't envision any splitter that would look right under that snout.

And apart from the shovel, I actually like the Indigo.

It certainly is distinctive. Like jimgood, I think it would look better without the front wing. The headlights and turn signals would then have to go "somewhere else." Not the front fenders, as they turn (left and right) and bounce around with the wheel.

michigan0626, after the kit is released, there will likely be "aftermarket" suppliers for custom bodies. I imagine the most popular designs that didn't make the cut at FFR would be offered. There is a thread about manufacturing your own, but that direction looks way too intensive for most builders. Your best bet is a professional shop that offers the design you want, with the quality you're expecting.

Wow, interesting idea. Imagine if FFR were to go as far as releasing drawings/templates to 'authorize' vendors to build their own bodies (with exact dimensions, mounting points, etc). Then some of these ideas, some of the niche requests for a retro this, an homage that, shelved concept the other, could be fulfilled, at the scale that meets the need (a need too small for FFR, but large enough for someone to be profitable).

Someone gets their undies in a bunch over some reproduction body, well FFR isn't on the hook, they didn't build it.

FFR would just offer an option to get the kit without the body (at lower cost).

Obviously this would be limited to body shapes that happen to look good at the dimensions of the 818, but thats still probably a lot of cool designs (original and reproduction).

Not sure if this has been posted or not. Here is a kit I found that is a 3 seater. I found it while looking for a 4 seater kit car (to function as daily driver). This is a kit based off of a Subaru. It is called the SDR V-Storm. Here are the specs and performance based off of an earlier motorcycle engine kit:

Specification
Chassis: Steel tubular and folded sheet hybrid, separate rear sub-frame for powertrain
Suspension: Fr-double wishbones pushrod operated aluminum coil over dampers
Rr-double wishbones pushrod operated aluminum coil over dampers
Brakes: Discs front and rear
Engine: 997cc 60° V-twin, 4 valves/cylinder, power 143bhp*, torque 101 Mm*
Transmission: 6 speed sequential shift, cushioned drive to rear differential, electric reverse
Weight: 500kg 286bhp/ton**
Performance: 0-30mile/n: 2.0sec 0-60 mile/h: 4.8sec 0-100mile/h: 9.1sec Top Speed:142 mile/h
Economy: At steady mile/h 25 32 mpg At steady 50 48 mpg mile/h

Im sure the 0-60 and top speed will be a lot higher with a WRX motor, gas mileage probably not so much. I not suggesting this as the 818, but simply a reference to what is currenly using a Subaru and its performance.

The V-Storm seems to be an Aerial Atom with three seats and a 300Hp Subaru Impreza engine. Looks like the engine/tranny setup FFR is planning. I can hardly imagine anything more fun to drive on a sunny day.
