A few members advised that my first attempt at a stop for my Russ Thompson gas pedal could cause the throttle to stick because I was just using a small hex head bolt. Well, thanks to all who commented as I kept looking and came up with what I think is a good solution. Using a hood bumper for an early '65 Mustang (the one with the phillips head in the center), I made a much wider stop that is also cushioned. This is not the finished product as I'll need to cut a bit of length off the bumper's 5/16" threaded rod, but that will be done once the engine is in and my mechanical linkage is complete. I'll leave just enough to allow for some adjustability.

Parts list: Hood bumper from '65 Mustang (available at most restoration vendors), 5/16" coarse X 1/2" hex bolt, 5/16" coarse connector nut, 5/16" coarse jamb nut, and two 5/16" lock washers. The photos below give a good idea of the assembly order.

May I suggest a smaller star washer. The teeth need to be under the standoff in order to lock it. As it is, it really isn't effective. I like your design and it should work great.

Thanks for pointing that out - I'll switch to the internal serrated washer, which ought to put the "teeth" in the right place.

That is a big bang for the buck mod.

You aint kiddin' - The bumper stop was $1.65 at National Parts Depot and the rest of the hardware was scrounged from my collection of left-overs.

Someone at the other site even was planning on using an extra footpad from a power tool to make it even more low-buck!
