View Full Version : How loud are the FFR supplied mufflers?

They look (judging by weld lines) like the old 2 chamber flowmasters before they added the extra baffle (think 20 years ago). They where known for creating hellacious drone. I don’t want that. Are these things real loud once th exhaust is ran out the back? Or should i plan for something else right now?

SVT,
With the exhaust out the back on my car with a Coyote its not loud at all, nothing like my Cobra was with side pipes.

I never used the stock mufflers by FFR due to the fiberglass blowing all over the car and noise levels others had complained about. I used Magnaflow mufflers with a balance pipe and Borla resonators. My car in coupe form is still loud with droning from 1600 to 1,800 rpm. I noticed before I put the top on, the car was much quieter.

Not the best video of the ffr baffled mufflers here: Link here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRSyLMHRCGY). With side exhaust/coyote at idle in the garage it can be loud, once its out in the open its much better where you can talk at normal volume, but once you get past 2500 rpm talking becomes nearly impossible.

i had the FFR pipes for 2 summers....about 12000 miles and just replaced them with 30" Flowmasters. The FFRs were getting louder and harsher so much so that ear protection was required even for the shortest of rides. A fellow owner who operates a garage would not inspect mine last year due to being too loud. NH does not have a db limit just an "excessive sound" limit. I love the Flowmasters, no packing.....i think the FFRs still run packing. they still bark when stepped on yet at cruising the wind buffeting is louder. they cost ~$200 each and i had a local shop weld them up for $200.....almost the best $600 i have spent.

The mufflers were changed a while back and the newer ones are chambered with no packing, so when comparing sounds make sure you know which ones it is you are listening too. It is fairly easy to tell as you can see the dimples where the inner plates are welded on the chambered ones where the older ones are smooth.

Thanks everyone. Mine are not the fiberglass filled ones. Mine are chambered.

Loud! I had Flowmasters installed into mine. It is much better now. It will never sound like your DD, but then again it is not supposed to either!

If I purchased my kit on July 2016 would they be the old fiberglass packed ones or the new chambered ones?

I like the hangers - and the blue muffler bearings are a nice touch!

FFR stated above that "It is fairly easy to tell as you can see the dimples where the inner plates are welded on the chambered ones where the older ones are smooth" - does this help?

Do you remember the part number. I have the exhaust out the back. Thanks, Craig

I have no. 938 and I like the sound level, but it gets a little too much when you get on it.

They say that when you first drive your car the pipes sound awesome. After 500 miles they are really annoying. By the time you have 1000 miles you are shopping for something quieter.

This was exactly the case for me.

The "this is freaking bad *** I don't care how loud it is" phase wears off pretty fast and you transition into the " I am going to be deaf if I keep driving this thing" phase.
