Little confusion here, can I use the inner tie rods on the donor steering rack ? I don't want to use the powersteering.

Thanks
John

From my research a de powered rack is not what you want to do, its not the same as a manual rack. Go ahead and drop the bucks now and get either a true manual rack at a parts house for under $100.00 ( some under $75.00) or get the new FFR one and be done with it. I have the FFR one in my car and see no reason to consider power steering and I have the largest tires that will fit. Yes its a little (very little) effort when not moving but its perfect while driving.

Thanks 3kcarbon, problem for me is that I'm in France, shipping a steering rack would cost more than the rack itself.
If possible, I would like to use the donor rack without power steering, what exactly would be the problem.

you can use the power rack without the power, it will work. The ratio is diferent than the manual rack so the effort will be alittle harder.

In the back of the FFR build manual ( the thick book we all ignore) they list the back space which is very important. I have 275/40R17 on 17X 9 wheels in the front and P315/35R17 on 17X10.5 wheels in the rear. This may be different if you have independant rear or some other that a Fox body rear axle.

From my reading nobody likes depowered racks, the effort is higher due to the ratio. I would at least give FFR Tech a call and ask which standard rack is what you want (84 Mustang?) Check with Autozone on the price, maybe it won't be as bad as you fear. My issue if you can do it right now its cheaper in the long run and you don't have to replace later when the body is on and its harder.

John55 where in France. The reason I ask is my wifes brother goes there quite often for work.I have a manual rack I'm not going to use maybe he can send it over with a machine and you pick it up from him.I not sure it would work but maybe it can.
