Here's a picture of Ed Boothman's Spec racer ready for the Grassroots Ultimate Track Car Challenge at VIR!
http://www.factoryfive.com/images/ffforum/number85.jpg
This car was run at the 25 hours of Thunder Hill several times and will be driven by John George this weekend for the shoot out. Jim Schneck will also be testing his Spec Racer with some of the new upgrades on his car for the new Challenge series. Aero mods will not be part of the new series, but they look pretty cool on Ed's car!

Very lovely car, but I would like a bit of information about the routing of the exhaust.

Chris, how about video from the car in the 25 hour last year? John has pretty much the whole race on vimeo, but here are a couple

The car sounded AMAZING when they were loading it on the trailer yesterday! It had no muffler... =) I wish I could hear it on the track!

I think the car just ran a 205 lap time at VIR yesterday in the Ultimate Track Challenge competition.

Can anyone elaborate on what a normal time is? Or what other cars do? Maybe even a time from one of the originals?

Fezz,
Found this link
http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Virginia_International_Raceway
Looks like the track record is a 1:36 in a Benetton Ford B-194 which I think is a full blown F1 car.
The track record for a FF Challange car is listed as 2:10
BMW E-30 cars track record is 2:29
I think I also read on Grassroots that the fastest Porche at the challange was around a 2:08, so that 2:05 is in real good company.
Look forward to see what Jim did in the new package spec car and how it compares to the spec record.

Well they are great times.
I have to say, I love the look of this car.
If there was a way to have working doors so my wife could still get in to drive wearing a dress I think we'd go down this path.

In this day and age, it's perfectly acceptable for ladies to wear slacks. :D And, once she drives one, she'll forget all about dresses and her hair and all that other frilly stuff.

John, the car must have felt good, love that you felt comfortable taking your hand off the wheel to shift mid corner at 60+

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then those 2 video's are an entire library. It must have felt pretty good to pass up that bmw on the slight straightaway doing 120.
Very inspirational - I have to get out to the race track and see this in person.

The car looked like it had a bunch of grip. Did it like the Hoosiers (Konis?)? I noticed in your second vid that the tonneau was off and it looked like the exhaust was going through the passenger side??
Is there a vendor/source for bits like the tonneau and front dam/splitter assemblies?

Hoosier slicks make you feel like superman driving, grip is incredible! Even on a 110+deg day where the track was 2-3 seconds slower then normal.
The tanoe came off because we ran out of time boxing the exhaust prior to the event and got a little too hot for me with it on. We fabbed it at ffr and is a one off piece, same with the front splitter.

Back that up with a 2:05 at VIR, or better yet at Run N Gun (http://www.runngun.net/)
All kidding aside, it's awesome Alex ;)

FFR#85 only has 320hp at the wheels. Id like to see what times I could do with FFR#85 having 800+HP like your SLC :)

Ed's tonneau was the first thing I noticed.
My inspiration was a photo on the web of a similar tonneau on a Backdraft.
The below link related to my hard tonneau from a couple years ago.
And, No, I'm not interested in making any more..........
But it does show what is possible as a first time fiberglass effort.
Looking at the altered photo with the Wimbledon/Guardsman strip got me all excited again.
I rarely run with it as my goal is to stay out of the sun and away from that guy with the sharp knives!
Enjoy.
