View Full Version : Driver Height?

I know that this is a subjective question with different body types, but when it comes to driver's heights I've seen a few videos where the person driving sits down into the car and looks right into the middle of the windshield, and others where the driver is propped up where the head is above the roll bar and looking at the middle of the windshield, which looks a little odd and probably feels that way as well.

Body type being relatively average and equal, is there a general height 'cut off' that generally fits and looks right in a Cobra? I've been able to sit in a couple, but only one was a Factory Five and I cannot recall exactly how I was positioned in the car. I am 5'11 about 190lbs.

I’m 6’3” and fit fine. 5’ 11” should be no problem.

I'm 6'0" and fit fine, but my eye line is only just a little below the top of the window. It's fine, in that I have no trouble seeing, but it is noticeable. This is with low-back Mk4 seats bolted right to the floor. I think I might upgrade to the kirkey lowback buckets one day.

Thanks everyone. Is the Kirkey Vintage the same as the Kirkey lowback buckets? Are those the same Kirkey's as optioned in the kit? It's called something different which is why I'm asking.

Yes those are the same seat. This

Pretty sure that this is what FFR sells
https://www.kirkeyracing.com/category/Series47/47-series---intermediate-15-layback-road-race-seat
This is another option
https://www.kirkeyracing.com/category/Series55/55-series---pro-street-drag
If you look at the shop drawings for each you will note that the basic seat body is nearly identical for all three. If you start w/ the classic and add a head rest you have a drag seat. Then if you add shoulder wings to the drag seat you have a road race seat. One nice advantage of these is it's so easy to modify the foam cushion. Cut some away or add a layer here or there.

WOW! This is a loaded question that I have found the best answer is - sit in several different builds.

I am 6'-2” and learned this from telling a 6'-1" guy that he would fit in my MK III. He said – “He would not, as I have tried several FFR’s before” and I said “Sit in mine and see”. Much to my surprise, he would not fit, as the length of his body from his knees to his torso was much longer than mine and caused his knees to hit the dash. He could not get his feet near the petals.

I used the Kirkey racing seats cut down to low backs with 2" of foam in them. They are bolted to the floor with a 3/4" x 3/4" aluminum angle, near the front seat edge, causing some tilt back and look through the middle of the windshield.

I’m 6’2 and find I fit quite comfortably with the leather big and tall seats bolted to the floor as far back as I can get them. A recent mod I did was to put 1/4” spacer under the steering column mount (pillow block?), this raised the steering wheel quite a bit so my right knee/leg doesn’t hit it going from the gas to brake anymore. This was about the simplest and best mod I’ve done to the car so far.
I bought seat tracks but decided not to use them as the extra height had me looking through the top of the windshield.

I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam and I fit extremely well in the Dark Dart Side MK-4!
I've got Mark Reynold's brackets (Breeze Automotive) and the big and tall leather seats.
The car now fits me like a glove and the rock back of Mark's brackets really made a huge difference in the comfort.

Kirkey Low Backs Also Are A Great Option For Added Room!

Now If I Can Just Get The New Engine Installed Then All Would Be Right With The World!

Thanks. What purpose does the Breeze installation kit serve. Does that sit you lower to the frame?
