I’m trying to install FFR brakes onto rotor. Left side went great but right won’t go over rotor. I have determined that the piston is pushed out slightly causing the pads to be to close together. However the piston will not move in at all. I used a little bit of air and it moved smoothly out but will not slide in. Also I removed the bleeder valve. This is the FFR standard brakes on the IRS. Any suggestions?

The rear brakes take a special tool to screw in the piston.

I use the cheap tool in this video. Make sure to just go to flush and line up the slots.

This explains it a bit better.

I assume they are the rears? Are they Wilwoods? If so read PhileasFoggs thread. He sent his calipers to Wilwood because he had actuated the park brake a few times.

Thank you. I have rebuilt calipers in the past. Long long time ago. No special tool required.

If you're working on a Ford rear caliper and the piston won't return with the bleeder screw removed...

You need a special tool.

Having worked on thousands of FORD brake systems as a FORD mechanic, the rears need a special tool to "screw" the piston into the caliper bore BECAUSE of how the park brake functions.

I have this very affordable set that I bought on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Caliper-Compression-Domestic-Vehicles-T1A-B1009/dp/B01LXWT282/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1518325828&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=disc+brake+caliper+tool&psc=1

It allows you to compress caliper pistons and "wind" the ones that require it.
