OK guys - question on heater core & NAPA part # 10743. I don't understand the manual here.

Refering to Page 34 of the MK4 Roadster Manual it states:

"Cut the heater core hoses from the firewall on the passenger's side making sure to leave bends intact on the larger hose so it can be used to complete the coolant circuit loop." Then refers to a NAPA part #10743 and states further to, "Connect the two hard black heater tubes on the engine with the one larger diameter tube with a bend."

Questions:
1) Why cut the hose? Seems better to take off the clamps and loosen the hose rather than cut it.
2) Understand that the NAPA part is for bypassing the heater core. Why isn't heater core needed in the kit?
3) Where do you connect the NAPA part? Manual says, "2 hard black heater tubes". WTF are those?

PICS.

Thanks & don't flame me for dumb questions. :)

1) You do not use the hoses so it is easier to cut them, but you can loosen the clamps and remove them if you like.
2) If you are putting a heater in your kit, it will not be the one from the Mustang. They sell one as an add on.
3) It is the two metal tubes that run along the top of the manifold. Many people remove them altogether.

Your second picture, the line drawing shows the "2 hard black heater tubes", they are the ones under the throttle body.

Thanks guys - with your tips and some snooping on Google I figured it out. A guy named Evan has a nice website with this picture showing the 2 black tubes and the Napa part.

Dooooh.

Hi Jakester,
I'm building a MK4 roadster myself, using a 1996 mustang donor with a 4.6 L SOHC motor. I just reassembled the motor after having the cylinder's bored, the heads machined, and the crankshaft ground. I'm confused about the heater bypass loop. I saved the rubber heater hoses from my mustang donor, and was assuming I would just loop the smaller diameter hose between the heater supply and return outlets at the back passenger side of the motor. Is that what you ended up doing, or did you buy a special part for the job?
Thanks
