I finished up the final phase of my side panels. I wanted to leave the head lights on and still be able to remove the side panels. So the first step was to use pins and bushings on the bottom instead of bolts for easy removal. The second was cutting the side panel into two pieces and have a way of bolting them back together easily. I used 3M panel bond to attach 1/4" X 3/4" aluminum strips, (that I had already drilled and tapped to receive studs) install the plate and tighten the nuts. Seems like it works pretty good so far. These are the part numbers from McMaster Carr for the bushings #6294K434 and pins #94742A380 that I used on the bottom. I used two pins per section, so four pins per side.

I used pins for the bottom of the side panels as well. Makes taking them on and off a snap (except the headlights, need to make a mod like you did).

I’ve been thinking about something every similar. Thanks for the tips and ideas!

We used a similar approach, not as cool as the connection you've done but effectively leaving the headlights alone.
