Ideas on joining the rear deck lids together?

I am working the body panels on my 818R and think I want to join the two rear deck lid sections together to make one single deck lid panel. I have seen it done once or twice in build threads, usually in combination with other mods to the deck lids. But little information was given as to the process they followed. If any one has done it and has some advice or pointers before I start, I'd love to hear about it.

Mainly, what is the best method for joining the two since they are not simple flat sections at the point where they come together. How to best secure the panels and keep their shape and relative positions while laying up the new fiberglass. Things like that.

I was hoping for some in-process pics to show how people bonded the panels together. I'm thinking of cutting off the lip from the rear most panel and cutting off the shelf from the humps panel so when the panels butt together they are the same thickness. Then I can glass them from the backside as a flat plane for strength. Then fill any gap from the top side as a cosmetic step (not adding much strength).
