OK dont beat me up too bad.....

I have a 94' 351W block. Im going to take it in to have it cleaned and magniflux, if everything checks out ill have all the normal machine work done. My question: I am looking at one of the complete Scat Rotation assembles and wondering if this is ok for my build.....or is it better to get the crank, rods and pistons separate. I would guess once it is all machined the best thing to do is call scat and give them all the new numbers to get some guidance on what to get......any help on this would be great.....this will be my first engine build!! going to be used mainly on the street and only wanna burn premium gas.

I carry scat rotating assys. There are 2, a street assy and a race assy. There is about a $500 difference in the 2. If you are not racing hardcore the street assy will be fine. Please feel free to call me if you have questions.

I would have the block checked but don't do machine work until you have the Scat kit. I would buy a complete kit so you know all the parts will work together. The machine shop should have the pistons, or at least one of them, to measure so they can than do the bore to create the correct piston to bore clearance. I got my 408 kit from Coast Hi Performance who I would NOT recommend.

Tailpilot: Scat produces a good kit and they have been at it for a long time. If it were me, I would go with the complete kit (actually I have in the past), forged and balanced. Gordon (Post 2 above) can give you all the help you will need making your choice. I would also go with the internal balanced kit rather than external balance. Internal balancing reduces the stress on the crank at high RPM...but I'm sure you'll never spin it above 3500! As Craig mentioned, the machine shop needs the parts to do their magic!
