Looking for suggestions on adding a hinged door for trunk access. Don't believe I've seen anything from the vendors.

IowaBen,

I purchased and installed the kit from Breeze ... that creates the cubby hole but doesn't create the door.

Right now I do not have plans to put a door but have the access and cut the hole in a manner that I could add door with lock similar to what i have on my glove box.

If I decide to proceed with a door ... here is what I a plan on doing:

1. Cut the door so that there is a 1/4" overlap on the opening on all sides;
2. Rivet in a piano hinge on the bottom of the door so that it opens down;
3. Install a keeper so that the door is horizontal when in the open position;
4. Install a lock at the top of the door similar to the one I have on the glove compartment (it is actually a lockable drawer pull from an RV center); and,
5. Cover the outside of the door with carpet.

On my MkII I cut the rear cockpit aluminum just at the height of the2x2 cross tube. I used this piece to close off the trunk by moving it back about 8 inches. Of course I had to make some side pieces also. So I don't have full trunk access, I just have 8 inches or so. I left the 3/4x3/4 tube in place so I can't put anything large and solid in there but it is great for stuffing a couple of coats, hats, gloves into.
