Hi all,

Just started building my MK4 base kit with IRS, now comes my question:
As I don't use the donor ('88 LX) axle/brakes, what would be the best option for spindles, brakes etc ?

Thanks

John

John the spindles and brakes would come from the Thunderbird super coupe 89- 95, the hubs and rotors will need to be drilled for the proper bolt pattern.

Disc Brakes R Us should be able to set you up with all the parts with the correct rotors and hubs.

John, here's what I did for my IRS setup. I bought a rear end from a Supercoupe, had the differential carrier rebuilt with new gears and seals, used the rear brakes as trade-ins (core charge) for rebuilt brakes of the same kind, bought new rotors from NAPA (they are around $40 each) and had Stu Spencer in Vancouver, WA drill out the new 4.5" bolt circle and install the studs that FFR provides with the complete kit. He also pressed in new bearings and sand cleaned/sand blasted my parts to look like new. I highly recommend him and he can be found by searching FFcars.

The rear parts are called knuckles (they're fixed) where as the front parts are called spindles because they turn. A lot of people confuse the terms but NAPA or the junk yard bulldog is quick to correct people :-)

A mid 90's Lincoln Mrk VIII rear IRS is the same. No idea if those are in France.
