View Full Version : That time of year in the northern climes - winter storage

A melancholy time of year for those of us who live in colder climates - as the last of the leaves hit the ground, the ponds start to freeze over, and salt begins to appear on the roads, the fun cars disappear.... sleeping for the next five months or so. It'll be good to see them again when they hit the road in the spring, but for now, we wait as they slumber.

I put my FFR into the trailer yesterday and tucked it away for a long winter's rest. Bummer.

I am hoping for one more ride this week before the salt and weather puts an end to the season

I have a few projects for the winter but no more fun with the car until spring

Bummer

Big fan of the Car Jacket brand of car bags - they do wonders to keep the grit and grime from sifting through the cover on cars that I store in my shop. The FFR is under a cover and sealed in the trailer, but my wife's '67 Camaro gets bagged (on the lift) and the GT350 will get bagged after this weekend (like Rick - I'm hoping for at least one more drive before I call the season done).

Let's just hope that the airplane doesn't fall on my trailer back in that far corner!!!!! (redundant chains and straps, just in case)

Chris,
Nice trailer and garage. I trailered the 289 roadster and dropped the body at the paint booth Saturday in pouring rain. The cover helped marginally. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow...........
Chassis goes in Wednesday for alignment. Lots to do this winter.

Awesome video - but those water levels from past hurricanes are one of the things keeping Mrs. Gumball north of the Mason-Dixon line. I keep telling her that my family settled in TN before statehood and I need to go back to my kin, but I haven't convinced her yet.

Take a look at Hattiesburg Mississippi.
It's far enough away from the Gulf of Mexico to reduce the impact of most Hurricanes and it is really a very pretty town that isn't to big.
Unlike where I live (The Swamp) there are these things called hills that don't exist where I live.
Also, Hattiesburg is about 100 miles North of New Orleans, but close enough to make a quick drive down to the city or the Gulf Coast. (aka: Redneck Rivera)

But Chris, it's supposed to be "warm" this week!!! ;) Well, warm for November in IL/WI at least. Supposed to hit 50 two days this week, more than good enough for another ride.

It's with mixed emotions that I'm packing my townhouse(and Roadster....) up and heading to Albuquerque for good. My new job starts in early December down there so I'm frantically trying to get everything in WI settled before I go. One thing is for sure, it's going to allow me 12 months of driving the car and plenty of sunshine!! Someone commented that people store there "summer" cars about now in New Mexico as well and I had to chuckle a little thinking about the difference between the two. WI will always be "home" so I'm sure I'll be back at some point but looking forward to the change in latitude.

Hope you installed a heater, or at least heated seats..I see the forecast for Albuquerque is fairly cool in December.

Regardless, least you won't have to worry about rain.. That is the #1 reason I have to tuck the car away come winter, because cold isn't really a big factor.

From all I have heard Tenn is a great place to live.

Love TN! Born and raised there. Still have family and a home there. Currently living in Pensacola which is pretty wonderful too. (Can't seem to make up my mind between the beach or the mountains)

East TN = more mountains if you want that.
West TN = less mountainous if the mountains are not your thing.

Moderate climate with 4 seasons so you will see snow but the driving season is good most of the year, with some challenges in Dec, Jan, and Feb.

Oh, did I mention the wonderful mountain roads for roadster adventures?

And, to help seal the deal,.....no state income tax!!!!
