Replacing IRS Wheel Studs

The manual states to knock out the mustang wheel studs and replace with the FFR studs. However the FFR wheel studs are much larger in diameter for the hub.
The mustang studs are 0.544" in diameter and the FFR studs are 0.599" in diameter.
Anyone else have this issue?

I just completed this operation yesterday, sacrificing only 2 lug nuts in the process. :rolleyes:

The teeth on the portion of the stud that is press fit into the hole in the hub actually bite into the steel - making the hole a little larger. The root diameter on the FFR stud has to be bigger than the outside diameter of the Mustang stud teeth. This allows the teeth on the FFR stud to bite into fresh metal and insures complete metal-to-metal contact for a full strength joint. Performing this "swaging" operation takes a lot of force, which is provided by mercilessly cranking on a lug nut. (Note: a few drops of oil on the threads and washer makes everything go easier and gives you a more accurate torque reading.) The tough part for me was finding a way to hold the hub in the bench vice while pulling 100 ft-lbs on the torque wrench. In short, your parts are correct and it's safe to proceed.

Throw the studs in the freezer prior to inserting (or a bucket of ice) and oil the threads... makes it a LOT easier
