Water Temp Sender Location on 2011-14 Coyote

OK, So maybe I had an extra helping of stupid this morning for breakfast, but I cannot find a location for the water temp sender on the 2011-14 Coyote. I'm working my way toward first start (finally!), and trying to get gauges hooked up. Got the Oil pressure, will put the oil temp sender in the spare bung on the Champs pan, but cannot find where to install the water temp sender. I have looked all over the motor from below, above, and the sides. No joy! I know (believe?)the controls pack uses a sensor in the head, and derives water temp from that, but that is not accessible for the dash gauges.

I've gone through a number of Coyote build threads, and can't find by scanning the text/photos or using the search function. Help please!

Take a look on the left side of the block. It is detailed on page 30 of the Coyote install manual.

As stated, it's in the instructions. On the LH side of the block right behind the alternator and near the oil filter. There's a pretty big plug you have to remove and replace with the water temp sender. The port is used for an optional block heater in production vehicles.

I ended up not using that location as the temp difference between the ECU and the gauge sensor was about 5-10deg cooler. Since I just had a plug end on the coolant out port I took that out and tapped and put the sensor here (its a plug in the pic but that is where I put the sensor)

Agreed. That's my experience as well. I've been monitoring the ECT reading from the ECU and it's definitely higher than the reading in the port behind the alternator in the block.

That is probably my biggest problem, in that I only have a draft of the Coyote install manual (Rev A from 12/29/11) from FFR, and it contains nothing about the sender.

The location stated by others behind the alternator won't give you true engine temperature. I did the same on mine because that's what the manual said in 2012. Johngeorge has the best idea. That location should give you coolant temp exiting the engine as opposed to coolant temp entering the engine.
