When filling the cooling system, should I have the upper petcock petcock valve open while filling cold? What is the proper procedure for burping the system. I have a Breeze T filler and moroso surge tank. The reason I am asking is I cannot figure out if I just need to remove any air pockets or if coolant is working its way into the cylinder head. Coolant is definitely going somewhere. I'm about 4 gallons into it at this point and after I run the engine for a bit, I no longer see coolant in the upper pipe.

I posted a thread with concerns of a blown head gasket but created it in the Welcome and Introductions section.

Depends on the block, but it should be around 4 gallons. My dart block 461w took just over 4 gallons. It's also not uncommon for the initial fill or coolant change out to have to add coolant a few times after Tefilling. This is because running the engine draws out any trapped air.

what block do you have??? my 351w took about 3.75 gallons... you can always dump the oil and see if it is getting in there...
