Gaps - Hood & Trunk

Starting the bodywork, I know doors need to be mounted for correct gapping. What about the hood & trunk, should they be mounted prior to setting the gaps? On the hinges?

My experience is that you don't have to mount them, but need to put some type of spacer under to make sure that they're flush with the body when you set the gap.

I always mount 'em on their hinges and adjust for fit.

Doors I do on the body with chassis. Hood and deck I do on my bucks. The hood can be a little picky about how it wants to be trimmed. You need to look at the backside and see if the flange is biased. Put spacers in the jamb (as per Steno) start trimming. As it gets real close I find a side, or two, or three that I like the look of and work the ones I'm not happy with. I have found that the latches need to be mounted further out from center because the hoods are getting a bit flatter (so you can leverage the corners down). da Bat
