View Full Version : Time to Get Serious With The Fuel System
I now have the engine and FAST EFI in my shop and I need some advice on component placement.
Here is the fuel pump that came with my engine and EFI.

It looks like I could mount this into an in-tank bracket rather than externally. I was looking at this kit from Breeze:

I also received a fuel filter, pressure regulator, and pressure gauge. Can anyone recommend placement for these items? I believe the filter is intended as a post-pump filter if mounted externally.

I also have a Holley 100 micron filter that I purchased to replace the FFR kit filter. Any issue running that as well as the smaller filter if I mount the pump in the tank?
Thanks,
Dave

That pump is quite different than the pumps (e.g. Walbro) that are typically mounted on an in-tank hangar like that, and likely wouldn't fit. I wouldn't even be sure it's designed to be fully immersed. I would recommend mounting it externally as it's intended. That would mean a simple pickup in the tank with a mesh strainer. Then a single external filter in the fuel line upstream from the pump. EFI typically requires a fine mesh, like 10 micron. The regulator and gauge are typically underhood.

Use a 255lph in take pump and the Mustang hanger. Give me a call and I help with the correct stuff.

Thank you, gentlemen. If I decide to just use the parts that I have and not go with an internal tank pump, where should I mount the fuel pump? Is orientation (horizontal or vertical) critical?

Horizontal, needs to be as low and the bottom of the fuel tank. Need to mount to something solid. Most likely you will end up making a bracket.

Thanks, Gordon. After trying to figure out how to make things work with what I already have, I think going with your recommended system is my best bet. Thanks for the recommendation and I'm looking forward to seeing what you send me!

Pretty sure the pump you have pictured is EXTERNAL USE ONLY (fittings on both ends), and more-than-likely, NOT rated for immersion in any type of fuel.
If the straps shown came with the pump (as a kit), it's definitely an external pump with a sound-deadening sleeve.
Just my 2¢

Doc,
I'm ditching the pump and the FFR filter and lines and going with a setup from Gordon Levy. It's going to include an in-tank pump, hanger, and lines. I'm going to have a lot of stuff to sell when this build is done.

Great post Papa. I'll be going with the Fast ezEFI set-up as well, so I'm taking notes. Thank you.
