View Full Version : Rubber EFI fuel line question

When I built my MK1, I used the blue rubber EFI fuel line that came with my system. I vaguely remember a steel vs rubber fuel line thread that stated that people that used rubber fuel line, could smell a gas smell, even though there were no leaks in the system. Well I have been smelling gas lately, and a check of the fuel system found no leaks anywhere. Am I crazy, or did I indeed remember correctly about rubber fuel lines. Thanks in advance for any response.

what is on your tank vent? check there first.

Some rubber and braided lines would allow gas fumes to pass through the walls. If that was the issue, you'de have noticed it right away. Since this is a new event, you have a leak some where.

Ergie,

The blue hose was not the issue, it was either a Russell or Earl's hose. Not to worry.

Bob, I was thinking , like you, that I had a leak somewhere. I have a removable plate over my tank, so I was able to check my system from the tank to the motor and found no leaks. I did have a slight leak in my pressure regulator a while ago, and the gas smell was quite noticeable. This new problem is just a hint of gas. I checked both pressure and return lines including the injector rails and external fuel pump, and found nothing.

Riptide, my tank was vented to atmosphere, so I plumbed the vent to the bottom of the air cleaner, thinking that my hint of gas was coming from there. I have no charcoal canister. We'll see if that helps.
