I have the original PS pump from the 2002 Mustang 4.6 SOHC with hydroboost. My PS is way over boosted and the car is very twitchy at highway speed. Is a Heidts valve the only option to lessen the power assist or is there a spring that can be cut down in this PS pump?
Thanks.

I have a Heidts valve but it's adjusted wide open and no spring mods in the pump. I also have the 2.5 turn rack. Mine is not twitchy at all and drives very easy especially on the highway. But, the quick turning takes a little time to get used to and requires eyes on the road at all time. Perhaps you don't have enough caster in the front. Mine has 7-8 degrees.

There are a few things you can do to adjust out the twichiness. The Heidts valve is just one part of it. I have the Heidts valve and have it adjusted for the least amount of assist for street use. The next thing is the alignment specs. We go with 1 to 1.5 degrees of camber, 8 degrees of caster and toe IN of about 3/16". This seems to keep the car stable in all of the street applications.

Thanks for the reply. I found out that my measurement for toe in was wrong as the toe plates that I was using had the measuring slot 7" above the floor and my rear tape measures were going from the toe plate, down under the 4" tubes (which were 4" above the floor) and then back up to the other toe plate. So what I thought was 3/32" toe in was actually about 1/4" toe out. I now have 3/32" toe in and it feels pretty stable.
